ASACCIÓN competition (with the team from DOS345). El Masnou. Honourable mention.
A detached house from the 1960s originally meant to be a holiday home that is now used as a primary residence, as is so often the case. The construction systems and finishing are very basic. It was designed for the summer months, which means that its occupants, a young couple, are cold in winter and are very conscious of the need to reduce consumption and the energy footprint. The architectural competition stipulated that the intervention be “real” and realistic within the confines of a very strict budget, allowing for imagination to flourish. The result was an intervention solely on the exterior that improved the home’s energy efficiency and recovered the money invested in just two years.
